Does acupuncture hurt?

Hi! My name is Elena Greenberg and I've been a licensed acupuncturist for over 10 years and one of the questions I frequently get as does acupuncture hurt? There’s a variety of sensations that are considered normal with acupuncture. Most points you don't feel at all. Some points you might feel heaviness like a stack of pennies are on a part of your body. Other points might feel warm or slightly itchy. Some points do have a dull ache that might radiate and some points may feel a little bee sting-ish. I do not practice under the guise of stronger the sensation the more effective the treatment. I haven't found that to be true. What's most important is that you can relax while you're on the table. So if you do feel something and you can still relax, great. If you feel something and it's bugging you and you can't relax then we can back up and have a lighter sensation. So if you need to find me or if you have any other questions please go to www.elainagreenberg.com. Thank you.
